Seeking helpful tips for their plants and inspiration for their homes, hundreds of people visited eight Sequim-area locales on Saturday for the Clallam County Master Gardener’s Petals & Pathways Home Garden Tour.
Volunteers said they anticipated 800-900 visitors throughout the day at the eight locations, including Community Organic Garden of Sequim (COGS), Harvest Haven/J&R Farmstand, Hillside Retreat, One Horse Ranch, Pioneer Memorial Park, Sanctuary for Humans and Wildlife, Second Chance Ranch, and The Shangri-la Garden.
Some locations are private except for during the tour, while others are open to the public, such as the J&R Farmstand, 585 Cameron Road.
Co-owner Randy Scott said the amount of visitors was “way more than I expected.”
He and wife Jan Webb put up a pumpkin stand four years ago, and “it just grew,” he said.
Webb raised her three children on the farm where she’s lived since age 16.
Webb’s daughter Emily also recently finished a mural for the farmstand she calls “a tribute to Sequim.”
At Second Chance Ranch in Agnew, Larry Edson’s neighbor convinced him to participate, and he was open to it because “it’s a worthy cause” supporting the Master Gardeners’ Woodcock Demonstration Gardens and the group’s free classes offered in Port Angeles and Sequim.
Edson, a retired kitchen manager, said he purchased the property in January 2020 with its building a shell and without utilities/hookups. In recent years, he’s revamped the barren property to include an arcade, bunk house, vintage RV trailer, outdoor games, a playground, vegetable garden and more.
“There’s something for all ages here,” he said. “We’ve gotten a good response. There’s a lot to see.”
The annual tour is brought together through the Master Gardener Foundation of Clallam County, with more information available at clallamcounty.mastergardenerfoundation.org.
