Genealogist is featured speaker

Saturday, Feb. 8, the Clallam County Genealogical Society will host two separate events featuring noted genealogist and lecturer Jim Johnson. They both will be held at the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 Sequim Ave., Sequim. The public is invited to attend both events.

A general meeting of the Society will be held from 10 a.m.-noon. Attendees are requested to come 15 to 20 minutes early to register, have a cup of coffee and visit. Following a brief general meeting of the Society, Johnson, director of the Heritage Quest Research Library in Sumner, will present "Westward Migration During the Gold Rush Era." There is no cost to attend the meeting and presentation.

That same afternoon Johnson will be giving two classes: "Researching Canadian Ancestors" and "Using Genealogy Search Engines." To attend both sessions will cost $25 for CCGS members or $30 for non-members. Registration will begin at 1 p.m. and the fee will be collected at the door.

Johnson is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, New England Historical Society and Tacoma Pierce County Genealogical Society. He teaches genealogy classes at the HQRL. He has given presentations at CCGS and at Washington conventions, including the one CCGS hosted in 2013 in Port Angeles. His lectures are always organized, well researched and entertaining.

Johnson will bring a selection of books and genealogical materials from the HQRL bookstore attendees can purchase at this time.
