As part of the North Olympic Library System’s ongoing celebration of National Novel Writing Month, Pacific Northwest-inspired author Ashley Mackler-Paternostro will appear virtually at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., to discuss her work and offer tips to aspiring authors.

She will discuss her writing process, research methods and how to move beyond the first draft to editing and eventual publication.

She’ll appear via web-conferencing software and will interact in real time with the audience.

In addition to her web conference appearance, Mackler-Paternostro and NOLS invite writers to submit up to 1,000 words of a work-in-progress for professional review and feedback.

Submissions will be accepted between Nov. 14-21 and can be e-mailed to librarian Sarah Morrison at SMorrison@nols.org. Only the first 30 works received will be reviewed.

Although a Midwest native, Mackler-Paternostro left her heart in the Pacific Northwest: her early work, “In the After,” is set in Joyce. Her novels tell the stories of contemporary families and the strong women at their centers.

National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo is a national creative-writing program that encourages participants to meet the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel during November. In addition to author talks and writing workshops, NOLS is hosting weekly Write-Ins at all library locations to help writers meet their daily word-count goals.
