Group seeks volunteers for Community Resource Connections event

With a different name, this annual event keeps its same purpose: helping peninsula residents who are dealing with housing issues or homelessness.

Event organizers of the 11th-annual Community Resource Connections — formerly known as Project Homeless Connect — are seeking volunteer help for the even, slated for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

“We have updated the name of the event to make sure that it’s clear that anyone residing in our county is welcome to attend and receive services,” organizers said in a press release this week.

Volunteers may work a half of a day or all day long. Morning shifts begin between 7:30-8:30 a.m. (depending on the job.) Afternoon shifts begin at 11:45 a.m. There are additional volunteer rolls the day before for set-up.

New volunteers must register by Monday, Feb. 10. New volunteers will attend a training/orientation session in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 26.

To volunteer, email Michelle Duvall at phc.event.volunteer@gmail.com or fill out a form online at forms.gle/e3yAuwp2hpVhohxZ9.

Homeless Connect is organized by Clallam County Homeless Outreach (CCHO), an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit.

The group’s primary purpose is to connect local residents experiencing poverty, housing insecurity, homelessness or otherwise are experiencing barriers, with resources and services that can meet their immediate needs.

Services at the March 6 Community Resource Connections event include: free meals, clothing, haircuts, chiropractic care, dental care, medical care, assistance with driver’s license reinstatement, state identification cards, veterans services, chemical dependency and mental health referrals, legal advice, employment connections, pet food, programs for young people, assistance with housing.

Additionally, organizers said, this is a time to make connections with various social service agencies.

Clallam County Transit offers free rides to and from Vern Burton Center on the day of the event from anywhere in the county.
