Gun report unfounded at Sequim High School

A gun scare nearly prompted the lockdown of several Sequim schools this morning.

Sequim School District community liaison Patsene Dashiell said the high school received limited information about a potential incident involving a student with a gun on campus

The administrators responded and found there was no gun, she said.

The Sequim Police Department received alternate information and responded quickly and appropriately to the information they received, she said.

Officer Maris Turner said the department received a third-hand report of a student with a gun and they responded as they normally would — moving to put the schools on lockdown.

After arriving on scene officers found out there was no gun and no reason to go into lockdown, Turner said.

The scene was clear by 9:45 a.m.

“Our utmost concern in every situation is always for the safety of our students,” Dashiell said.
