Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization begins in Downtown Sequim

Home repairs include new fence, landscaping and more

Work continues this week on a Sequim home as part of Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County’s Neighborhood Revitalization project.

The home in the 300 block of West Maple Street is the first in the Sequim area to receive upgrades, which include painting the house, replacing the fencing and garage door, landscaping, installing new light fixtures and repairing the roof.

Homeowner Rebecca Horst said Habitat pays for the cost of products and each homeowner has an interest-free loan to pay it off over five years.

Representatives from Sequim Sunrise Rotary, First Federal and Habitat began working on the home April 20 and due to poor weather postponed painting to this week. Volunteers plan to finish the project this weekend.

Horst said Allen Roofing patched the roof for free and a Habitat volunteer replaced the garage door for free, too.

“I’m not used to people doing things for me like this,” Horst said.

“I can’t reciprocate this amount of work. It’s a little overwhelming.”

Neighborhood Revitalization efforts began in September with volunteers walking the City of Sequim performing a visual survey of the area.

They rated homes on if they may need repair for roofing, doors, windows, yards and more.

Cyndi Hueth, executive director of Habitat, said they hope the Maple Street project brings awareness to neighbors and Sequim residents so that they’ll consider taking advantage of the program.
