Hargrove votes for school security bill

Sen. Jim Hargrove and eight other Democrats broke ranks on March 4 to vote for a bill that allows school resource officers and local police liaison officers to search students and students’ possessions, containers and lockers if they have reasonable grounds to suspect evidence of a violation of school rules or laws.

Senate Bill 5618 passed the Senate 30-19, with 21 Republicans and nine Democrats supporting the bill.

Eighteen Democrats and Republican Mike Hewitt voted against the measure.
