No need to knock on wood because the Pacific Northwest Wood Artisans have done it for you.

The wood carvers and turners will hold their yearly art show Saturday, July 25, at the Sequim Elks Lodge.

More than 25 artists will display handcrafted wood art, driftwood art, furniture and more.

Demonstrations will be available throughout the day from chain saw artists, pyrographers or wood burning artists, carvers and wood turners.

"It’s a great creative outlet for us and anyone," said club co-founder Ann Grover.

Each year features a different artist. This year’s honored member is Chris Hansen, who focuses on intarsia work that compiles exotic types and shades of wood to make one art piece.

Introduced to the style 10 years ago, Hansen has been crafting it since.

"I love the completed projects, and they look nice hanging on the wall," he said.

He will show and offer for sale 25 pieces of intarsia and other wood art along with other artists’ work.

The event serves as the main fundraiser for member training and travel expenses for guest lecturers.

"We have a lot of talented people who all do different, great things," said member Bill Lohnes.

Lohnes will sell starter birds, on which he has done preliminary shaping.

"People don’t know where to get started, so this should help them," he said.

Each bird will cost $6.

The annual show also serves as a recruiting tool.

"About five new members join after each show, so it’s great," Grover said.

"Hopefully, we can inspire people to keep carving, keep going strong."

The group started in 2004 as an offshoot of Peninsula Driftwood Artists.

It meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles.

Membership costs $16 a year for individuals and $18 for families.

"You always learn from everybody in the club," Hansen said.

"There is countless information from this group."

Every Tuesday, a workshop takes place from 1-4 p.m. at club president Gordon Day’s shop, 83 Raven Hill Road,

Sequim. Both meetings are open to visitors.
