The League of Women Voters of Clallam County will sponsor three forums featuring candidates and issues appearing on the Aug. 4 primary ballot.
• The first forum will be from 1-3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim.
This forum will begin with a discussion of the ballot measure to create a metropolitan park district for the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center, featuring Susan Sorensen of Citizens for SARC speaking in support of the measure and Pat Johansen of Citizens for Sequim’s Future speaking in opposition to the measure. Candidates for the board of directors for the proposed new metro park district: Bob Anundson, Gayle Baker, Rich Bemm, Fritz Gruetzmacher, Paul Gruver, Mike McAleer, Eckart Mildenstein, Dick Neal, Virginia O’Neil, Warren Pierce, Susan Sparks Smith and Ken Stringer will speak about their candidacy for this new board.
• The second forum will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Port Angeles City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles.
This forum will include candidates for Port Commissioner District 3 who are Connie Beauvais, Michael Breidenbach, Rick Robinson and Lee Whetham, and candidates for Port Angeles City Council, Position 5 Michael Merideth, Shan Pak and Marolee Smith.
• The third forum is slated from 1-3:45 p.m. Sunday, July 12, also at the Shipley Center.
This forum will feature candidates for Clallam County Commissioner District 1: Bryan D. Frazier, Mark Ozias and Jim McEntire; candidates for Commissioner for Fire District 3 Commissioner 1: G. Michael Gawley, Sean Ryan and Alan W. Slind; and candidates for director at large Position 5 for the Sequim School Board: Heather Short, Charles Meyer (who will not be present, but will send a representative) and William Payne.
Forum details
This series of forums will focus on candidates and issues that will be on the ballot for the Aug. 4 primary election. Ballots will be mailed on July 15.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and bring questions for the candidates.
At each forum, audience members who are candidates for other offices, including those that are not in contested primary races, will be asked to stand and introduce themselves.
Time will be allowed at the conclusion of each forum for one-on-one Q&A with the candidates.
In the fall, the Clallam County League of Women Voters will present another series of forums for candidates and issues appearing on the Nov. 3 ballot.
