Have a published book?

The Sequim Library is looking for Sequim-area authors to participate in a new program that may be the first of many in years to come.

The North Olympic Library System is working with the Sequim branch to organize a Sequim-Dungeness Valley Local Authors Fair, where area writers can showcase, sell and discuss their printed works.

"Authors love to talk about their work and people really take pleasure in having conversations with people who created works that they enjoy reading, so we thought it would be a natural fit for a library fair," said Sequim Library manager Keitha Owen.

On Nov. 8, space for the authors to interact with the public will be made available throughout the library from noon-3 p.m. Authors interested in participating need to have an application turned into the library system by Sept. 17.

"The application form is available at the Sequim Library as well as online at www.nols.org," Owen said. "We’re hoping to have about 20 authors in-house with a variety of general interest books."

Owen said children’s, large print, novels and other types of books can qualify under general interest and suggested that if authors have questions, they call the Sequim branch, 683-1161.

The library is asking that submitted books be printed within the past two years, be currently in print and available for purchase at the fair. Self-published books are welcome.

The library presently has locally authored books mixed in with the rest of the circulation. However, Owen said she would like to create a pamphlet that identifies locally written books, both those included in the fair and those the library is aware of or is notified of.

"It’s something we hope to keep updating as the years go by and as we hopefully continue to have author fairs," Owen said.

The fair is part of a series of outreach activities to encourage participation and support of the Sequim Library as it faces an upcoming remodel and potential future expansion.
