Library, firefighters help spray summer rain away at storytime

A little rain didn’t stop dozens of children from taking the chance to shoot a firehose after the North Olympic Library System’s Firefighter Storytime.

Patti Swingle, Sequim Library’s youth services librarian, opened the event July 11 at Sequim Middle School by reading “Firefighter Duckies” followed by Lt. Lawrence Bingham with Clallam County Fire District 3 sharing fire safety tips. He also showed how Firefighter/EMT John McIntyre readies for a fire. McIntyre crawled around the crowd high-fiving children in his suit so that they wouldn’t be scared of him or any firefighter during a fire.

The Summer Reading Program through the Sequim branch of the North Olympic Library System is sponsored by the Friends of Sequim Library and continues all summer. Next up is Lucky Diaz at 3 p.m. Monday, July 22, at the library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., and BLOCK Fest 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25 at Sequim Middle School, 301 W. Hendrickson Road, and many more events throughout the summer. For more information, visit www.nols.org/srp.
