Local students got a small taste of navigating the moon on Thursday evening.

Julie Bowman with the Museum of Flight in Seattle brought in eight kits for teams to build their own lunar rover. Their mission was to make a movable and functional robot that could pick up space junk.

Teams competed to see who could successfully pick up and place items in their robots.

Patti Swingle, library children’s service coordinator, said 33 children participated and the event tied in nicely with the 4-H’s current robotics team.

Museum of Flight’s robotics seminar is a part of its distance learning education and can be found online at www.museumofflight.org/education. Earlier in the day, Bowman visited the Port Angeles Library.
