For the past three years on the last Saturday of June the Sequim Valley Lions Club has hosted its major fundraising event — a Dungeness crab feed, raffle and silent auction, and this year was no different.

The club served more crab dinners than in previous years, said Steve Sahnow, vice president of Sequim Valley Lions Club. And with the “tremendous support from the community” the club organized both a raffle and silent auction with more than 100 items and services donated by local businesses and individuals, Sahnow said.

“This is the fourth year we’ve done this event and it’s our major fundraiser,” Sahnow said. “Each year has improved.”

Both full and half crab dinners were available at the feed and 400 fresh Dungeness crabs were supplied by the club, which the club gets from a local crabber, said Jodi Simmons, a Sequim Valley Lions Club member.

Although it was still to early to calculate how much the event raised, all the proceeds will go back into the community, Sahnow said. The club does a variety of community oriented services, but often focuses on helping people with vision or hearing problems. For example, just to list a few things the club does, it hosts community spaghetti feeds, builds ramps throughout town and provides scholarships to the local schools, Sahnow said.
