Sarah Shea of Sequim, a local jazz singer, will share the stage at the Port Angeles High School auditorium on Friday, Oct. 9, with five performers from hit Broadway musicals, in Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway.

She will sing a solo part in the show finale. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m.

"I’m just really excited about it," said Shea, who earned a music degree at Eastern Washington University after growing up in Sequim.

She has appeared in

numerous Port Angeles Light Opera Association productions and has been cast for the role of Sally Boles in "Cabaret," the show that will open Olympic Theatre Arts’ new auditorium in February 2010.

Shea will sing a solo from "Rent" in the Port Angeles production on Friday, with rehearsal time limited

to the three hours before

show time.

"It’s a little nerve wracking," she said, "but I guess they have confidence in me."

On the local music scene, Shea sings with Al Harris, the Stardust Big Band and Olympic Express in various venues. She was a winner in the local "Pass the Mike" talent competition and a finalist in "Seattle Stars."

"I would love to put out a jazz CD. That’s been a goal of mine for a long time," Shea said.

"I hope this can somehow open a door for me."

Shea was selected from eight applicants who posted auditions online. Runners-up Jenny Dreessen and Vicki Helwick, both of Port Angeles, will sing one chorus number with the five stars. Shea, Dreessen and Helwick will receive a CD of the show and a pair of tickets, but the highlight is the opportunity to perform with top musical talent.

The Broadway stars Carter Calvert, Rita Harvey, Robert DuSold, Grant Norman and Lawrence Clayton will appear in Port Angeles under the direction of composer and lyricist Neil Berg.
