Growing and utilizing fresh peppers is the focus of a presentation by veteran Master Gardeners Muriel Nesbitt and Betsy Burlingame at noon on Thursday, May 22, in the county commissioners meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
The presentation is part of the Green Thumbs Garden Tips brown bag series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners.
Nesbitt discusses how to grow pepper plants from seeds or purchased transplants, including setting plants outside, site selection and cultivation in the local growing environment. She explains what makes some peppers hot and others not and what are some of the hottest, and also discusses what happens when you grow different varieties of peppers next to each other.
Burlingame shares culinary recipes for the use of fresh and pickled peppers for peppers home gardeners can grow locally.
