Katherine M. Melcer, 33, and Travis McDaniel, 35, both of Carlsborg, were arrested on April 9 during a traffic stop in Jefferson County. Both were wanted on multiple arrest warrants out of Clallam County.
During the past several months both the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team have been investigating heroin sales in the Carlsborg area.
During the investigation, law enforcement developed probable cause to believe that Melcer and McDaniel delivered heroin to bureau members on five separate occasions, and OPNET developed probable cause to believe that Melcer delivered heroin to team members.
On the morning of April 9, investigators from U.S. Border Patrol, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and Criminal Investigation Bureau and OPNET executed a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of East Runnion Road, and information was distributed to area law enforcement regarding the heroin case.
That same evening a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy located and apprehended Melcer and McDaniel.
“This case is of great concern for law enforcement because the heroin sales were occurring so close to Greywolf Elementary school,” narcotics team supervisor Jason Viada said in a statement.
