A 10-foot truck camper was totaled but no injuries were sustained in a fire between Sequim and Port Angeles near midnight on March 17.

Fire District 3 (Sequim), along with automatic mutual aid from Fire District 2 (Port Angeles), received a 9-1-1 dispatch at 11:58 p.m. for an RV fire with possible explosions in the 300 block of John Jacobs Road, off O’Brien Road. Firefighters found a truck camper in flames within 15 feet of a large garage. Firefighters quelled the blaze before it reached the garage. Two fire engines and about 10 firefighters had the fire controlled in less than 10 minutes.

The camper was not occupied; the owners were awaken from a nearby residence and told about the fire. No injuries were reported.

Damage to the camper resulted in a total loss, fire district officials said, with heavy fire and water damage throughout. Investigators said appliances inside the camper may have been the fire’s starting point.

It was unclear at the time of this release if the camper was insured or what the total value of the loss will be, fire district officials said.
