On Sept. 24, the Sunland Women’s Golf Association and Sunland Lady Niners joined together to sponsor “Drive for the Cure” Golf Tournament.

This event benefits Olympic Medical Center to pay for breast cancer detection and treatment for men and women in need here on the Olympic Peninsula.

Overall, $6,000 was raised thanks to donations from participants, members of SWGA, Sunland Lady Niners, sale of raffle baskets and an openhearted, anonymous donor who matched $1 for every $3 of the funds raised.

Here, Judy Flanders, chairman of Drive for a Cure, presents the check of $6,000 to Olympic Medical Center representative Jeremy Gilchrist.

Heading up the tournament were Flanders, Judy Kelley and Nonie Dunphy. There were 67 players, including visiting players and men. It was a great success for all participants as well as for the Olympic Medical Center Foundation, event organizers said.
