Milestone: McCarter hits 100

Longtime Sequim resident Joy McCarter will celebrate her 100th birthday on Dec. 10.

Longtime Sequim resident Joy McCarter will celebrate her 100th birthday on Dec. 10.

She lived in Port Gamble as a child when her father worked at the saw mill. In the 1950s she was the first woman realtor working in Port Townsend and Sequim. In the 1960s she owned Joy Land Co. Inc.

An artist most of her life, she was involved in the art movements in Port Townsend and Sequim. She taught art classes and workshops for many years, and was a founding member of Sequim Arts and the Blue Whole Gallery.

The family will provide cake at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the facility where she lives — Sequim Health and Rehabilitation, 650 W. Hemlock St., Sequim.
