Sequim Sunrise Rotarian Jim Pickett has been recognized by the international relief organization, ShelterBox, for reaching a major fundraising milestone.

Since joining the organization as a volunteer fundraiser in 2006, Pickett has raised more than $200,000 for disaster survivors worldwide.

Of the nearly 400 ShelterBox volunteer fundraisers, or ambassadors, Pickett is one of seven to reach this milestone, earning a spot in the ShelterBox Hall of Fame. Funds raised through Pickett’s efforts have provided over 200 families with humanitarian aid during their greatest time of need.

Pickett is an active member of the Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club. He has been awarded a Presidential Service Award, and by ShelterBox USA as the 2012 Ambassador of the Year.

Sequim Sunrise Rotarians have contributed more than $100,000 of the total raised by Pickett.

Pickett noted that it was the willingness of Rotarians and other citizens to provide money to help people that they will never see or know that led to the his recognition.

“This demonstrates that we have many caring people living in the Sequim area who want to help others in need,” Pickett said.

ShelterBox provides humanitarian aid—emergency tented shelter and other supplies—such as stoves, blankets and water filtration systems, among other tools to help families rebuild their lives after losing their homes and possessions following a disaster such as earthquake, cyclone, volcano, flood, tsunami or conflict.
