More snow? You bet

As expected, the North Olympic Peninsula is getting another dose of snow.

Weather forecasts indicate Sequim-area residents can expect at least another 2 inches of snow today, with a 30 percent chance of snow Thursday.

Forecasts show a warm front and rain breaking through Friday and Saturday, with temperatures up to 45 degrees.

Rain is expected through Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Due to severe weather conditions, the Clallam County Courthouse is closed to the public today. County officials expect to resume full operations on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Clallam County PUD crews continue to work in the Carlsborg area to restore water.  An earlier update announced that restoration was complete, but customers are continuing to experience issues and/or outages.

Some customers may experience a "trickling" of water or low flow water as a result of air in the lines, said Mike Howe, executive communications coordinator, said.

PUD officials advise to run the water for a bit and water service may return to normal.

A broken fire hydrant caused water outages for about 150 customers while another 80 experienced low water flow.

Updates will be posed on the PUD website (www.clallampud.net) and on Twitter @ClallamPUD.

Trash service postponed

According to City of Sequim officials, DM Disposal is not running trucks today (Wednesday, Jan. 18).

Weather permitting, they will be picking up the Wednesday customers Thursday, Jan. 19.

City plows on standby

City of Sequim road crews are on stand-by to clear roads of snow if necessary. During heavy snows, the city crew concentrates on clearing the main arterials first. Washington Street, Sequim Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Third Avenue, overpasses and school routes (when schools are in session) are the top priorities.

In addition to the two large snow plows used for the main arterials, this year the city will also utilize a smaller plow attached to a new one-ton, four-wheel drive Ford pick-up. This will allow city crews to clear secondary streets at the same time as the main arterial. Crews will also utilize the salt truck to de-ice roads if necessary.

“We expect the addition of the new, smaller plow to make snow clearance about 25 percent faster than in previous years,” Mike Brandt, City of Sequim Streets Manager, said.

When the new Ford truck is not outfitted with a snow plow, it is used by the Utilities Department to haul the sewer camera.

There are 54 miles of city-owned roads and alleyways in the City of Sequim, in addition to parking lots and sidewalks. In the event of a snow storm, the city asks the community to help by clearing the sidewalks that adjoin their homes and businesses.

7 Cedars Casino is closed today and will reopen as usual tomorrow. The Longhouse Market and Deli is open, but the deli is closed. The Cedars At Dungeness golf course is closed and Stymie’s Bar and Grill will be open until 1 p.m.
