In lieu of the Museum & Arts Center’s (MAC) anticipated event, Evening at the Barn, MAC volunteers have shifted gears to plan a MAC Fun Day at the DeWitt Administration Center. Although Cline Barn, the venue of the original event became unavailable, it did not deter MAC volunteers from hosting a community gathering aimed at bringing people together and to promote awareness of the museum, Joy Headley, event organizer and MAC volunteer, said.

Centered on an old-fashioned picnic theme, there will be many games ongoing throughout the day, live bluegrass and country music by the Old Sidekicks, hotdogs, corn on the cob and freshly popped popcorn also will be available.

“Everything we’ve planned so far are things you would have seen years ago,” Headley said.

Historical and traditional picnic pastimes such as sack races, three-legged races, tugs of war, egg tosses to watermelon eating contests are among the planned activities.

In addition to the abundance of food and games, antique tractors will be on display and a silent auction and three drawings are scheduled. The donated drawing prizes include two tickets to the Seattle Symphony, two tickets to The 5th Avenue Theatre and lastly a family fun pack for the Woodland Park Zoo.

Although the MAC Fun Day offers a free admission, donations are of course welcomed and will help keep the museum’s doors open, Judy Reandeau Stipe, executive director said. Any donations previously made by business owners and/or community members still will be put to a good cause, despite the change in events.

“We don’t know what to expect at this point,” she said. “We could have 50 people come or hundreds, but mostly we just want people to come together like they used to.”

Headley suggest attendees bring their own blankets or chairs for the event given the lack of seating. No alcohol or pets are allowed. Parking is available at the high school parking lot and handicapped parking is at DeWitt Center.
