Sequim’s popular Music Live with Lunch program returns to St. Luke’s Epsicopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., on Tuesday, Sept. 20, with smooth jazz group BlueSkyz featuring Jason Popelka and Tess Teel.
The group plays original and cover songs at noon followed by a lunch of raspberry glazed chilled and grilled salmon salad and strawberry shortcake at 12:30 p.m.
Some of the songs include Popelka’s originals “The Water is Wide” and “Love In This Moment’s Age,” and a handful more along with covers such as the Negro spiritual “Wade in the Water” by the Work brothers.
Teel has been a church soloist, psalmist and cantor at several congregations in California and Washington. She has performed major choral works with the Canto Bello Master Chorale in 2008, and studied with Ralph Cato at the University of Riverside prior to joining the Riverside Lyric Opera. There she performed in both RLO concert series and full opera productions and was selected to perform as part of an international cultural exchange with opera and orchestra.
Popelka trained in classical guitar through his high school years while enjoying gigs with cover bands. Following his career as an architect, Jason pursued his musical talents in jazz, country, classical, rock, blues, and soul. He performs solo and with St. Luke’s Chancel and Wire Choirs, and with “Round Trip” dance band.
