Residents on the Olympic and Kitsap peninsulas are getting calls from company reps claiming to have connections with local heating and air businesses, in attempts to drum up some dollars.

Rachel Picard, service dispatcher with Air Flo Heating in Sequim, said her company has received four calls recently — three locally, a fourth in Bremerton — in which representatives from Seattle-based Green Heat or Fresh Air companies are ready to service residential homes.

Instead of telling people which local company they work for, they try to get residents to offer up who they use for heating and air duct services, Picard said.

“They’re not licensed in the state and not affiliated in any way with us,” she said last week.

“If it doesn’t sounds right, it probably isn’t right,” she said.

The recent scam has companies like Seattle-based Green Fresh Air on alert, warning customers on its website that a business is trying to use its name for its own business.
