Newcomers group sets annual picnic for Aug. 3

The Olympic Peninsula Newcomers’ Club announced that their annual picnic is set for 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Salt Creek County Park, just west of Port Angeles.

Olympic Newcomers’ is a friendship club designed to give men and women the opportunity to meet and develop friendships with others who live in the area. It offers a wide range of activities designed to encourage members to learn about this area, its culture, activities and lifestyles. Many of the activities are hosted in member homes or local restaurants and wineries.

The organization, members note, is open to anyone who would like to join — not just those new to the area. Many members have enjoyed the club’s activities and services for more than a decade, they say.

“The one difference this year will be that everyone will bring their own picnic lunch due to the pandemic,” club president, Warren Pierce reported. The club will supply bottled water and charcoal for the barbecue.

To err on the side of our member safety, masks are required for all those unvaccinated, but fully vaccinated may choose not to wear a mask.

RSVP for the event at olympicnewcomers.org.

The club, begun in the 1980s, has been picnicking at Salt Creek for many years.

“While all activities were cancelled due to the pandemic, we are ready to gear up and get going again,” Pierce said. “Check our website regularly for announcements as we rev back up.”

Membership rates are $20 per person or $30 per couple. Applications are available on the website as well as at the picnic.
