Nonprofit training session set

Let’s Go Legal, a training designed to help board members and staff of new and existing nonprofit organizations get on the right road to compliance and asset protection, is set for 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, Sept. 27, in the Red Cedar Hall at the Jamestown S’Kllalam Tribal Center, 1033 Old Blyn Highway.

Let’s Go Legal covers the five main topics board members need to know, including: state and federal law, fundraising, employment and intellectual property. The training also takes a deep look into nonprofit law topics along the way: by-laws and how to use them to strengthen board practices, advocacy and ways to grow an organization’s mission within the public sector.

Cost of the workshop is $15 for members of Washington Nonprofit, $20 for non-members.

Training is presented by Nancy Bacon, Education Director for Washington Nonprofits, and Jodi Nishioka, Executive Director of Wayfind, an organization providing access to free business legal services for nonprofits and micro-enterprises.

Let’s Go Legal is co-hosted by Olympic View Community Foundation, the Office of the Secretary of State, Washington Nonprofits and Wayfind Legal.

“Strengthening the practice of nonprofit organizations in our community leads to more effective and sustainable results as we address poverty, education, the environment and other critical issues,” Leslie Lauren, Olympic View Community Foundation Executive Director, said.
