Bob W. Smith
A graveside service for Port Angeles resident Bob W. Smith will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 20 at Oceanview Cemetery, 3127 W. 18th St., Port Angeles.
Mr. Smith died Feb. 14, 2008, at the age of 79 of cancer.
He was born Oct. 19, 1928, in Oakville to Percy Linton and Martha "Mattie" Jane Christian Smith.
He married Geraldyn Mae Wyman on Jan. 12, 1955, in Port Angeles. She preceded him in death on April 29, 2000.
His previous marriage to Joyce Story ended in divorce.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, from June 12, 1946-May 11, 1949, and was called up again to serve during the Korean War from Sept. 11, 1950-Sept. 25, 1951.
He worked as a sales manager for Hegg & Hegg Fish Market.
Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, gardening, spending time with his family, doing crossword puzzles and being with his buddy Skipper, a Jack Russell terrier.
He was a member of the American Legion, Cape Hope Post 122 in Washougal.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Arlene Smith of Sequim; Bob Smith of Port Angeles; Stanley and Tracy Smith of Port Angeles; daughters and sons-in-law Janie Marie and Jim Thorp of Washougal; Ellen Louise and Richard Stender of Phoenix, Ariz.; Diane and Clyde Schendzielos of Kent; Julie and Ken Reandeau of Port Angeles; and Sallie and David Graham of Port Angeles; brother and sister-in-law Stanley and Linda Smith of Port Angeles; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, his brother Frank Smith preceded him in death.

Floyd L. Hornback
A service for Sequim resident Floyd L. Hornback will be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 23 at First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim-Dungeness Way, Sequim. The Rev. Butch Adcock will preside.
Mr. Hornback died Feb. 1, 2008, at the age of 89 of congestive heart failure.
He was born Nov. 4, 1918, in Galveston, Texas, to Clyde L. and Dolly Rogers Hornback.
He served in the United States Navy from 1942-1945. During World War II, he was a machinist mate, serving in the Philippines, Borneo and Fiji Islands.
He married Juanita May Kimble in June 1985 in Sequim.
He physically built and operated a service station and auto repair shop in Sedona, Ariz., from the mid-1960s-1981. He worked as a journeyman machinist in Garden Grove, Calif.
A Bible scholar, he avidly studied God’s word as well as other Christian books and periodicals. He had a keen interest in anything mechanical and could repair almost anything if he put his mind to it. Mr. Hornback had a high level of interest in home electronics and built several sound systems.
In his later years, he avidly studied nutrition to include food, juices, herbs, minerals and vitamins.
Prior to his health failing, he ran the sound system at Faith Baptist Church in Sequim for more than 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Hornback of Sequim; son Ronald Hornback of Show Low, Ariz.; sister-in-law Muriel Hornback of Fullerton, Calif.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nephews and three nieces.

Bonnie Garay
A service has been held for
Sequim resident Bonnie Garay, who died Feb. 10, 2008, at the age of 60 of cancer.
She was born Dec. 6, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo., to Raymond Frances and LaVerne Jansen Biermann.
She married Fausto Soto Garay on Dec. 1, 1985, in San Diego, Calif.
She enjoyed crafting and shopping.
Mrs. Garay was a member of Sequim Community Church; past president and a state director for Sequim Association of Realtors and a member of numerous Realtor committees.
She is survived by her husband, Fausto Garay; son Christian Twombly; daughter Shani Twombly and six grandchildren.

Maxine A. Dockum
A service has been held for former Sequim resident Maxine A. Dockum, who died Feb. 11, 2008, at the age of 93.
She was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Centerville, Utah, to John Carter and Mary Ellen Argyle Stocks.
She worked as a hospital dietician before her marriage to Norman L. Dockum on Sept. 6, 1941, in Bountiful, Utah. After World War II, they moved to Tri-Cities, where they lived from 1950-1963. Work took them to Bountiful, Utah, and Lincoln, Neb. They retired to Sequim in 1979 and she moved to Vancouver, Wash., in 2000.
She loved the outdoors and reveled in being a grandmother.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Don and Angela Dockum of Vancouver; daughter and son-in-law Lori Dickum and Jeff Markle of Kennewick; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Dockum, on Nov. 14, 2007.

Darrel W. Pilgrim
A family service has been held for Sequim resident Darrel W. Pilgrim and a memorial service is planned for a later date in California.
Mr. Pilgrim died Feb. 7, 2008, at the age of 87 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Boise, Idaho, to Leonard Guy and Mamie Crawford Pilgrim.
He married Evelyn Ruth Tallmon on Nov. 21, 1941, in Carson City, Nev.
He graduated with honors from Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., in 1942.
Mr. Pilgrim worked for General Electric for 33 years, first as an electrical engineer, and then as a manager, including the Apollo program.
After retirement from GE, he worked for Vitro Laboratories for 10 more years.
He enjoyed family outings and activities, golfing with friends and extensive travel over much of the world. He was an avid golfer since 1942.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Pilgrim of Sequim; sons Donald Pilgrim of Eureka, Calif.; David Pilgrim of Sequim; and Douglas Pilgrim of Bremerton; daughter Darrelyn Pilgrim of Franklin, W. Va.; sister-in-law Louise Pilgrim of Bakersfield, Calif.; sister Kay Heath of San Jose, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Frank Newberg Sr.
A memorial service has been held for Sequim resident Frank Newberg Sr., who died Jan. 22, 2008, at the age of 79.
He was born Jan. 11, 1929, in Hollywood, Calif., to Frank and Clara Doerr Newberg.
He served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Newberg was a retired surveyor for operating engineers.
He moved to Sequim three years ago, from Pagosa Springs, Colo., to be at sea level for health reasons.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in the garden and serving his Creator.
He is survived by his sons Frank Newberg Jr. and Phillip Newberg, both of Colorado; and a granddaughter.

Ralph Arthur Horner
A remembrance gathering for Port Angeles resident Ralph Arthur Horner will be held at a later date. Mr. Horner died Feb. 10, 2008, at the age of 52.
He was born Dec. 21, 1955, in Tacoma, to Gerald Paul and Eileen Ruth Rezner Horner.
He attended Jefferson Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School and Port Angeles High School. He earned an associate degree from Peninsula College.
Mr. Horner enjoyed fishing, football and baseball.
He was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Port Angeles.
He is survived by his friend Helene Jagger of Port Angeles; son Michael Johnston of Marysville; parents Gerald and Eileen Horner; brother Edward Horner of Port Angeles; sisters and brothers-in-law Liz and Carl Cedar of Roundup, Mont.; and Ginny and Mike Sturgeon of Port Angeles.
He was preceded in death by his sister Nancy Washburn.

Patricia J. Johnson
At her request, no service will be held for Port Angeles resident Patricia J. Johnson, who died Feb. 11, 2008, at the age of 73.
She was born Dec. 3, 1934, in Spokane to Steven Leslie and Dilla Barnes Stephens.
She married Harry Johnson on Aug. 26, 1954, in Weiser, Idaho.
Mrs. Johnson worked as a licensed practical nurse. She retired in the early 1990s after 25 years of service at Olympic Memorial Hospital, now Olympic Medical Center, in Port Angeles.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed her flowers and hummingbirds.
She was a member of Nurse’s Association; a Camp Fire leader for 15 years and was active in the YMCA.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Johnson of Port Angeles; daughters and son-in-law Sheryl and Rick Deason; Sandy and Tory Clayton; and Sharon Kenney and her partner Darrell Shofstall; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Don and Evelyn Johnson, all of Port Angeles.

Margaret Litton Wilmeth
A service has been held for Sequim resident Margaret Litton Wilmeth, who died Feb. 9, 2008, at the age of 88.
She was born April 17, 1919, in Abingdon, Va., to Sheriff John Murray and Hettie Duncan Litton. As a child, she and her family moved to Bluefield,
W. Va., where she graduated from Beaver High School.
She met and married Thomas Sharpe Wilmeth, a young electrical engineer from Indianapolis, in 1939. They initially lived in Charleston, W. Va. Later, they moved to Milwaukee, Wis., where their two children were born. The couple divorced.
In Milwaukee, she was an active member of the Milwaukee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as a chapter regent.
She was state president of the Wisconsin Daughters of 1812 and a member of the Wauwatosa Women’s Club.
Mrs. Wilmeth traveled all over the world and she greatly enjoyed spending time with her children and family.
She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and enjoyed the "Out to Lunch Bunch" at the church.
She is survived by her former husband and friend, Thomas Wilmeth of Texas; son and daughter-in-law Steven and Mary Lou Wilmeth of Texas; daughter and former son-in-law Suzanne Wilmeth Anderson and Ronald Anderson of Washington; brother John Whitley Litton of Texas; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by sisters Naureen Woodyard, Opal Ratliff and June Jacobs.

Lillian Pilling
No service has been reported for Port Angeles resident Lillian Pilling, who died Feb. 7, 2008, at the age of 89.
She was born Sept. 9, 1918, in Baltimore, Md., to Owen and Grace Mae Norton Tormollen.
She married Richard Pilling Sr., who preceded her in death in 1989.
She retired from the United States government.
She moved to Port Angeles in 1999 to live closer to her son.
Mrs. Pilling is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Richard "Dick" Pilling of Port Angeles; Robert "Steve" Pilling and Deborah Pilling of South Carolina; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and six brothers and sisters.

Jacqueline Green
No service has been reported for Sequim resident Jacqueline Green, who died Feb. 14, 2008, at the age of 80.
She was born June 22, 1927, in Wilber, Minn., to John and Constance Sinclair Garberick.
