Janice Carol Hurworth
A celebration of life for Port Angeles resident Janice Carol Hurworth will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the family home. She died June 22, 2008, at the age of 79 of pancreatic cancer.

Ronald Floyd
A memorial service for Port Angeles resident Ronald Floyd will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles. Mr. Floyd died June 24, 2008, at the age of 71 of cancer.
He was born Nov. 8, 1936, in Ninah, Wis., to Charles and Louise Baldauf Floyd. He graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1954, earned a bachelor’s degree at Reed College in Portland, Ore., a master’s degree at Washington State University and a Ph.D. in German at the University of Washington.
A marriage to Hannelore Rudolf in 1960 ended in divorce in 1966. He married Jane Moty on June 26, 1971, in Vancouver, Wash.
He was a professor of German at the University of Portland and at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore. In 1996, he retired from Freightliner Truck Company in Portland where he was a translator and editor of technical literature. He lived in Portland from 1967-1972, then in Vancouver, Wash., from 1972-1998 before moving to Port Angeles in 1998.
He loved the outdoors and did a great deal of hiking, climbing, scuba diving and his greatest love, kayaking. He was a member of Olympic Peninsula Paddlers.
He also was an accomplished artist, specializing in jewelry and metal sculpture. When he moved to Port Angeles, he added driftwood sculpture to his artistic skills. His volunteer activities included Clallam County Parks, Olympic National Park, Olympic Discovery Trail and Port Angeles Fine Arts Center.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Floyd of Port Angeles; daughters and son-in-law Marlis Floyd-Kuballa and Tom Kuballa; and Erika Leib; brother and sister-in-law Dick and Marcia Floyd of Edmonds; and three grandchildren.

Juncal M. Johnson
A service has been held for Sequim resident Juncal M. Johnson, who died June 21, 2008, at the age of 74.
She was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Sutherland, Utah, to Thomas Sevy and Elizabeth Heywood Judd.
She married Robert Earl Johnson on Sept. 18, 1954, in Delta, Utah. She earned an Associate of Arts degree from Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City, Utah. She and her husband moved to California after their marriage, where he was with the Los Angeles County Fire Department for 32 years. Upon retiring, they traveled and then moved to Sequim.
Mrs. Johnson had many different jobs, including working at a bank and a school. She was a homemaker for many years and also worked at a county library where she led the children’s reading groups, which she enjoyed greatly.
She liked gardening, reading, raising vegetables in her garden and bird-watching. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sequim.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Johnson of Sequim; son Richard Johnson of Santa Clarita, Calif.; daughter Elizabeth Johnson of Sacramento, Calif.; brother David Judd of Bountiful, Utah; and sisters Jean Andrus of Lakewood and Janet Wellington of Orem, Utah.

James Warren Benedict
A service has been held for Sequim resident James Warren Benedict, who died June 23, 2008, at the age of 79.
He was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Spokane, to Warren Vincent and Trula Miller Benedict.
He married Ann Porter, Johanna Simon and Barbara Cox. Barbara Cox Benedict preceded him in death.
After serving in the Army, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley. He worked for 30 years for General Motors Corp. in Fremont, Calif.; Atlanta, Ga.; Lordstown, Ohio; Warren, Mich.; and Arlington, Texas. He was an avid fisherman, a director of the Sequim Food Bank and belonged to Sequim Bridge Club. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Mr. Benedict is survived by his sons Michael Benedict, Stephen Benedict, Thomas Benedict and Mark Benedict; brother Robert Benedict; sister Nola Benedict and nine grandchildren.

Rebecca ‘Becky’ O’Brien
A funeral Mass has been celebrated for Sequim resident Rebecca “Becky” O’Brien, who died June 21, 2008, at the age of 88.
She was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Winchendon, Mass., to Louis Germain and Anna St. Laurent Jean.
She married Harold O’Brien in 1940 in Winchendon. She resided in Winchendon and Stoneham, Mass., and Kent. After 25 years with See’s Candies, she retired to Sequim in 2005. She enjoyed baking, quilting, playing bingo and poker.
She is survived by her son Kevin O’Brien of Sequim; daughters and sons-in-law Elaine and Fred Antonelli of Sequim and Patricia and Paul Chielchlowski of Kent; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

William F. Noble
At his request, no service is planned for Sequim resident William F. Noble, who died June 28, 2008, at the age of 82 of cancer.
He was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Ceres, Calif., to William A. and Vida E. Wilkinson Noble.
He served in the Merchant Marines in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married Polly Bessette Noble on June 2, 1950, in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Noble farmed the home place after the war, then worked in the oil distribution business in Ceres, Tulare and Gustine, Calif., until he retired in 1988.
A member of the Masonic Lodge for 55 years, he attended meetings in Ceres and Sequim.
He wrote more than 240 stories of his memories of Ceres, which were published in the local newspaper there. He enjoyed a game of cribbage when he could find a good adversary and was very good at checkers as well.
A world traveler, he took trips on cruise lines, sailing ships and container ships.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Polly; son Bruce Noble, daughter-in-law Karen Noble; daughters and son-in-law Ann Noble and Diane and Steve Zipser, all of Sequim; sister Rachel Quinley of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three nephews; and two nieces.

Roy Ilmer Niemi
Port Angeles resident Roy Ilmer Niemi died June 20, 2008, at the age of 85.

Helen A. Novak
Former Sequim resident Helen A. Novak died June 3, 2008, at the age of 93.
At her request no service was held. Inurnment will be with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
Mrs. Novak is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jeri and Cal Whitaker of Green Valley, Ariz.
Her daughter Jeanne DeRaffaele followed her in death on June 13, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Judy Rhodes in 1993 and husband, Ed Novak, in 1999.
