Kenneth E. Neis
No service was reported for Sequim resident Kenneth E. Neis, who died July 13, 2008, at the age of 79.
He was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Los Angeles, Calif.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He retired after 38 years of service from Pacific Telephone in 1985.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beatrice; son and daughter-in-law Rodney and Rebecca Neis; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Max Robertson; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Bruce A. Churchill
A service has been held for Port Angeles resident Bruce A. Churchill, who died Aug. 10, 2008, at the age of 48 of brain cancer.
He was born March 9, 1960, in Worcester, Mass., to Neal Colby and Ruth Evelyn Peters Churchill.
He married Ellora K. Clark on Oct. 26, 1996, in Port Angeles. His marriage to Bibi Shave ended with her death in March 1996 after a car accident.
He was a shingle packer and truck driver in Forks and a corrections officer in Port Angeles. He was a member of Washington State Horsemen, Lighthouse Christian Center and Teamsters Union at Clallam Bay Corrections Center.
He is survived by his wife, Ellora Churchill of Sequim; daughter Bethany Churchill of Maryville, Tenn.; brother and sister-in-law Jeff and Kim Churchill of Tumwater; sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Mike Duchaine of Lacey; parents Ruth Forrest of Centralia and Neal Churchill of North Anson, Maine.
He was preceded in death by his son Brandon; daughters Brittaney, Breneda and a baby girl; brother Brian Churchill; and his grandparents.

Ula Sextro
No local service will be held for Sequim resident Ula Sextro, who died Aug. 2, 2008, at the age of 91.
She was born March 11, 1917, in Hanover, Kan., the third of six children, to August and Gertrude Jaedicke and grew to adulthood in that community. She attended two years of college at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan.
She married George Sextro of Marysville, Kan., on March 25, 1943, in Bakersfield, Calif. They lived in Fairbury, Neb., until 1950, from 1950-1960 in Grand Island, Neb., and from 1960-1968 in Arapahoe, Neb.
Following her husband’s death in 1968, she moved to Port Angeles, where her sister and brother-in-law Marie and Lee Reynolds, lived. She worked as a bookkeeper for Pacific Refrigeration for more than 20 years.
In January 2007, she moved to an assisted living center in Sequim.
Mrs. Sextro was an avid reader and became a "steady customer" of the book delivery services of the North Olympic Library System. She was a member of First United Methodist and Congregational Church in Port Angeles.
She is survived by her sons Richard Sextro of Berkeley, Calif., and Robert Sextro of
Sequim; brother Robert Jaedicke of Bozeman, Mont.; sister Margie Jaedicke of Sequim; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Twila W. Slootmaker
A service has been held for Sequim resident Twila W. Slootmaker, who died Aug. 10, 2008, at the age of 88 of heart failure.
She was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Olds, Alberta, Canada, to Walter Farwell and Martha Grace Gilmore Webb.
She graduated from Sequim High School in 1939. She married John Adrian Slootmaker on Feb. 2, 1949, in Carlsborg. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2006. She was proprietor of Modern Beauty Salon, on the mezzanine of the Aldwell Building, and of Maybee’s Village Laundry. Mrs. Slootmaker was a member of Rebecca’s Lodge.
She is survived by her daughter Florence Frazier of Sequim; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Wahnettah Slootmaker of Port Angeles.

Richard John Holdsworth
A service for Bothell resident Richard John Holdsworth will be held at the Redmond Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Holdsworth died Aug. 7, 2008, at the age of 86.
Born at home at his parents’ house in Rainier Beach, he was a Seattle native and resident for most of his life but spent many years in the Happy Valley area of Sequim. He was very active in the Evangelical Free Church in Sequim and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Holdsworth worked for 31 years in quality assurance for the Boeing Company, where his friends and co-workers nicknamed him "Hosenose." He was well-known for a great sense of humor, which he retained to the end.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Oleta; five children: Dick, Linda, Jerry, Dean and Brian, and their spouses; and many grandchildren.
The family requests no flowers, please.
Muriel Jean Pettett
At her request, no service is planned for Sequim resident Muriel Jean Pettett, who died Aug. 9, 2008, at the age of 75 of heart failure.
She was born Dec. 26, 1932, in Port Gamble to Emmit and Lilian Fredrickson Hawley.
She graduated from Sequim High School. She married Verne Pettett in 1968 in Sequim. Mrs. Pettett was a homemaker and circulation district advisor for the Peninsula Daily News for 16 years. She enjoyed gardening, walking with her dog, reading and discussing Scripture. She loved her grandchildren and being a grandma, having tea and chatting with family and friends. She was full of stories, told many and always was giving wise advice. She had an upbeat and lighthearted personality. Mrs. Pettett sponsored children from other countries. A great philanthropist, she was very giving to many organizations and needy groups.
She is survived by her husband, Verne Pettett of
Sequim; sons and daughters-in-law Dawayne and Amy Pettett of Sequim and Jay Blanton of Aberdeen; daughters Bonnie Crawford of Olympia and Nikki Smith of Aberdeen; brother Alan Hawley of Poulsbo; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
