Lethe M. Wessel

A memorial service for _Sequim resident Lethe M. Wessel will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 1 at Gardiner Community Church, 1040 Old Gardiner Road. The Rev. Lee Bennett will preside. A reception follows the service.

Mrs. Wessel died Feb. 17, 2008, at the age of 89.

She was born June 20, 1918, in Calipatria, Calif., to David Marshal and Ida Amanda Brasher Cox.

She married R.Q. Bennett in 1937 in California. He preceded her in death in 1967.

She married Bertram E. Wessel in 1977 in California. He preceded her in death in 2003.

Mrs. Wessel lived in Calipatria, El Centro, Pomona and Palm Springs, Calif., before moving to Carlsborg.

She was a homemaker, bookkeeper and president of Toastmistress Club.

She enjoyed traveling and golfing. She loved family, knitting, cross-stitch, crocheting, needlework, craft projects and photo albums.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Sequim.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Joan Bennett of Gardiner; sister and brother-in-law Catherine and Robert Miller of San Dimas, Calif.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Albert A. Consani

A remembrance get-together for Albert A. Consani will be held from 2-5 p.m. March 2 at the family home in Sequim. E-mail rememberalc@hotmail.com for information.

Mr. Consani died Feb. 14, 2008, at the age of 82.

He was born in August 1925 in Seattle. He grew up near Green Lake and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943.

He married Reggie Kienle in 1950 in Seattle and they had three children.

The Consanis lived in Seattle, Everett and Edmonds before moving to Sequim in 1986.

As a family, they enjoyed their cabin on the beach of Whidbey Island, camping at Lake Chelan and later skiing together at Stevens Pass close by their cabin on the Tye River. He worked as a homebuilder and was a professional ski instructor for 35 years.

He enjoyed living in _Sequim, especially the mountains, salmon fishing, golfing with the Men’s Club at Dungeness Golf Course, and making and selling birdhouses at local fairs.

Mr. Consani is survived by his wife, Reggie; son and daughter-in-law Jeff Consani and Eileen Burke of Sequim; daughter Joan Consani of Sequim; and daughter and son-in-law Robin Consani and Michael Dolan of Seattle.

Alton E. Nix

No service has been reported for Sequim resident Alton E. Nix, who died Feb. 20, 2008, at the age of 97.

He was born to Henry V. and Mary Etta Nix in 1910, one of 11 brothers and sisters.

Mr. Nix spent most of his life as a civil engineer. His profession took him many places as he was employed by the government during the war years. He worked in Silacaga, Ala.; St. Paul, Minn.; Hanford, building the atomic bomb plant; then to Indiana, building a rocket powder plant.

In the late 1940s, he located his family in Sequim and dairy farmed. He was an engineer for the city of Sequim, building the reservoir, and in charge of the Voice of America project during those years.

After the death of his first wife, Ann Elizabeth Nix, when he was in his 50s, he became an engineer for Douglas County, living in Wenatchee. There he met his second wife, Irene Nix, eventually taking a job with King County as an engineer, where he continued working until his retirement at age 65. They lived in Bellevue and Kirkland, then moved back to Wenatchee.

After her death in 1998, he moved back to Sequim with his daughter and her husband until moving to the Fifth Avenue Retirement Center.

At age 89, he met, fell in love with and married Mary Beryl Nix in February 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Beryl Nix; children James H. Nix, Billie Sue Anders, Wayne E. Nix; David A. Nix; and Elizabeth Ann Gaither; three stepchildren, Ron Koch, Darrell Koch and Judy Peeples; sisters Prima Adams, Eulamae Reynolds and LaVelle Heron; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Ann Elizabeth Nix; second wife Irene Nix; and seven of his siblings.

Germaine R. Kundratis

Former Sequim resident Germaine R. Kundratis died Feb. 21, 2008, at the age of 91.

She was born in Lawrence, Mass., to F. Alcide and Merelice St. Louis Lambert. Her father, who died shortly before her birth, was an inventor and manufacturer of electric cars and trucks, doing business as the Andover Motor Company.

She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1933.

Mrs. Kundratis retired to _Sequim in 1984 with her husband, Tony. They lived in Sequim for 17 years.

After his death, she returned to Massachusetts, living in Brookline, Needham and West Newton.

She was an accomplished pianist, a talented clothes designer and tailor, an avid reader, a trained hairdresser and a skilled homemaker engaging in upholstering, wallpapering and painting as well as traditional family care.

She befriended and cared for many people who came into her experience.

She and her daughter were best friends.

Her main work after becoming a Christian Scientist was serving her church as a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Andover, Mass. and then First Church of Christ, Scientist in Sequim.

Her many devoted activities included being a Sunday school teacher and a librarian in the Christian Science Reading Room, conducting Sunday services and Wednesday testimony meetings as a lay reader, overseeing local public relations and being on the executive board, among other services.

She will be remembered for her ready smile, creative energy and generous spirit.

Mrs. Kundratis is survived by her daughter M.K. Merelice, formerly Merelice Kundratis England, of Brookline, Mass.

She was preceded in death by her older brother Roland Lambert and two sisters, Cecile Duquette and Edna Williams, also formerly of Sequim.

No service has been reported for Port Angeles resident Richard Kenneth Anderson, who died Feb. 12, 2008, at the age of 84.

He was born May 22, 1925, in Sparta, N.J.

Evelyn Chadd
