OMC Foundation makes record $1M donation

Representatives with the Olympic Medical Center Foundation presented $1 million to Olympic Medical Center at the hospital commissioner’s meeting on Dec. 21, the largest single contribution it has given to OMC in its 38 year history.

The large gift was due to the 2022 Festival of Trees event as well as a gift from an anonymous door, foundation executive director Bruce Skinner said.

The foundation has given more than $1.9 million to OMC this year, which is another record.

The previous donation record was $540,000, Skinner said.

“We have been very fortunate to be the benefactor of many generous citizens in Clallam County,” he said.

The majority of the donation ($820,000) will help fund a new CT Scan Imaging Machine at the OMC Cancer Center, technology that allows patients to be examined locally instead of having to travel out of the area.

The remaining $180,000 will fund wheelchairs and stretchers for the emergency room.

“We are extremely grateful for this donation,” OMC CEO Darryl Wolfe said, “as this will be of an extreme benefit for patients on the Olympic Peninsula.

“Because of COVID, we have had to limit our capital purchases, and would not have been able to purchase this at this time if it wasn’t for this gift from the foundation.”

The latest CT scan has 128 slices, Wolfe noted, which will provide for much better imaging for the heart, cancer and other diseases.

“This is the top of the line CT scanner,” OMC Director of Radiology John Troglia said. “These machines can provide a full-body scan in mere seconds. This is a huge win for patients, thanks to the incredible speed and accuracy of these machines.”

Those interested in more information or in making a donation to the foundation can call the OMC Foundation office at 360-417-7144, or email to bruce@omhf.org. Or, they can mail donations to the foundation at 1015 Georgiana St., Port Angeles (98362).

“We hope that many local people will become a part of our fundraising efforts,” Skinner said.
