OPNET nets heroin bust in P.A.

On June 10, detectives assigned to the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team (OPNET) and detectives and officers with the Port Angeles Police Department served a search warrant in the 700 block of East First Street in Port Angeles. Taken into custody without incident was Michael J. Reid, age 57.

The investigation by OPNET detectives into the sales of heroin began earlier this year. That investigation led detectives to Reid. Evidence gathered during this investigation was reviewed by a Clallam County Superior Court judge, who then signed a search warrant authorizing the search of Reid’s residence.

More than 4 ounces of black-tar heroin was found in the residence. The seizure of that amount of black-tar heroin makes it one of the largest seizures of that type of controlled substance in many years in Clallam County. Evidence of the sale and use of heroin also was found in the residence.

Reid subsequently was booked into the Clallam County Correctional Facility on charges of delivery of a controlled substance (heroin) and possession of a controlled substance (heroin) with intent to deliver.

The case reports will be forwarded to the Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office for the formal filing of charges.
