Olympic Theatre Arts has announced the cast for the fall season’s upcoming production, “Something’s Afoot,” a zany, entertaining musical that takes a satirical poke at Agatha Christie mysteries and musical styles of the English music hall of the 1930s. There are 10 cast members stranded in an isolated English country house during a raging thunderstorm when the unpredictable skulduggery begins.
Director Ron Graham and musical director Mark Lorentzen have assembled a diverse cast of both veterans and new performers to the OTA stage. “Something’s Afoot” previously was produced at OTA in the Howard Wood venue in 1999. Playing in that show and also this new version is Dave McInnes as Flint, the caretaker.
Other veterans include Merv Wingard as Clive, the butler who played a similar role in “The Man Who Came to Dinner” last fall. Kai Lavatai, as Nigel and Cathy Marshall as the pretentious Lady Grace were both seen in the “Holiday Revue” last December. Marshall has played the same role previously with another troupe and looks forward to playing once again on the OTA stage. K MacGregor was one of the critics in “The Real Inspector Hound” last season and will now play the Colonel while Debbie Embree last seen in “Harvey” will portray Dr. Grayburn. Valerie Lape, who acted as OTA musical director for “I Love you, You’re Perfect, Now Change” will take on the role of an amateur detective attempting to unravel the murder mystery as it unfolds.
New to the OTA stage will be Ginger Moore playing the ingénue Hope Langdon, Jade Evens as the saucy maid Lettie and Randy Powell as Geoffrey.
The show opens on Halloween weekend, Friday, Oct. 28, and runs for three weekends through Nov. 13. Special performances include preview night (final dress rehearsal) on Thursday, Oct. 27, and Pay-What-You-Will on Nov. 3.
