The Olympic Peninsula District will host the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs (WSFGC) 82nd Annual Convention, June 2–5, held at the Red Lion Hotel in Port Angeles.

The Olympic Peninsula District is made up of five garden clubs: The Bogachiel Garden Club in Forks; The Nordland Garden Club on Marrowstone Island, Port Angeles Garden Club, Sequim Prairie Garden Club and the Tri-Area Garden Club representing Port Hadlock, Chimacum and Irondale.

WSFGC is an affiliate of the National Garden Club, Inc. This national organization includes 50 state garden clubs and the national capital area, nearly 6,000 member garden clubs and nearly 200,000 members.

The outgoing state president Brynn Tavasci and president-elect Terry Critchlow will be in attendance as well as representatives from 14 state districts.

Co-chairmen for this event, Mary Lou Paulson and Mary Lou Waitz, are pleased and excited to help organize this event with the support from District Garden Clubs, the State Federation of Garden Clubs and the Olympic Peninsula community.

The convention “Gardening from the Mountains to the Sea” is proud to showcase entertainer Mark Pearson of The Brothers Four to kick off the festivities with a dinner and a concert.

Another evening features Florida’s Janice Hamlin, floral designer. Conventioneers will be inspired by her innovative floral designs. Hamlin is an accredited master flower show judge and a flower show schools design instructor for National Garden Clubs, Inc. She has taught and demonstrated at garden clubs throughout the South; exhibited at the 2011 World Flower Show in Boston; and the 2014 World Flower Show in Dublin, Ireland. Her work has been published in The National Gardener magazine, Design Dimensions magazine and in “Flower Arranging the American Way.” Attendees will learn wonderful tips as she demonstrates her remarkable skills in arranging flowers and foliage.

Workshops, lectures by state and local speakers as well as the installation of state officers are among the many events planned for the convention.

Excursions include many local areas such as Hurricane Ridge, the Feiro Marine Science Center, the Fine Arts Center and Webster Woods as well as the Heritage Tour of downtown Port Angeles and more. Local artists and businesses will offer floral design garden and related items for sale to participants and the public in the vendor room.

A registration is required to attend this event. If you are interested in information regarding the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs, visit www.wagardenclubs.com.
