P.C. Foundation gets Friberg estate bequest

Peninsula College has received $106,400 from the estate of Arnold G. Friberg

Peninsula College has received $106,400 from the estate of Arnold G. Friberg according to Mary Hunchberger, executive director of college advancement and the Peninsula College Foundation.

Friberg, a longtime Sequim resident, died in July 2008.

"The college is very honored to have been remembered so generously by Mr. Friberg," she said. "He and his wife were both ardent supporters of Peninsula College and of our music program in particular.

"The unrestricted gift, as well as future distributions from the estate, will be used to further advance arts and education at Peninsula College."

Early contributor

Friberg was one of the early contributors to the Peninsula College Foundation and his generosity was recognized in 1991 when he was inducted to the college’s donor wall.

Over the intervening years, he gave several gifts to the foundation in memory of his wife, Eleanore, including establishing the Eleanore L. Friberg Music and Arts Fund in support of music and arts enrichment for Peninsula College students.

One of the students who benefited from Friberg’s generous gift is Robbin Eaves, office assistant for the Peninsula College music department and a student in the Bachelor of Applied Science applied management degree program at Peninsula College

"Mr. Friberg’s generosity gave me an otherwise unreachable opportunity, to study with a world-class voice teacher, Marianne Williams, and to experience the culturally rich campus of Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle," says Eaves. "I will be forever grateful to him."

The Fribergs moved to Sequim in 1973 following his 29-year-career as a senior electrical engineer for Western Electric in Chicago, Ill., and Boulder, Colo. His wife preceded him in death in 1991.

Friberg was an avid hiker, snowshoer, camper and outdoorsman in addition to being an accomplished pianist.
