Community members are invited to join in the groundbreaking for the new Allied Health and Early Childhood Development Center building at 4 p.m. on Aug. 18, on the Peninsula College campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

College trustees and community members will use golden shovels to turn dirt at the ceremonial event, held at the southwest corner of campus, south of Keegan Hall.

The Allied Health and Early Childhood Development Center project is being built to provide a state-of-the art facility for the college’s Allied Health department that includes nursing, medical assisting and other health related course work to be developed based on community demand, college officials said.

The 41,650-square-foot, $25 million facility also will house early childhood development programs consisting of early childhood education and childcare facilities for toddlers and preschoolers.

Once completed, the building will feature smart classrooms, labs, student gathering and study spaces, a childcare facility and play yard as well as faculty and staff offices.

A brief program will include remarks from president Dr. Luke Robins, college board members and others. A reception follows in Keegan Hall.
