Peninsula Singers to perform Bach masterpiece

The Peninsula Singers present Bach’s masterpiece, under the leadership of Dewey Ehling, at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at Port Angeles High School, 304 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles.

"St. Matthew Passion" tells the complete Passion story from Chapters 26-27 in St. Matthew’s Gospel.

Jack Reid sings the role of Jesus. Reid studied voice with Richard Chamberlain at Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, and The Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, where he studied under Metropolitan Opera star Francesco Valentino. He has sung professionally for more than 40 years, including singing with Mountain Madrigal Singers, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Aspen Community Chorus, Aspen, Colo.; the Western Colorado Choral, Grand Junction, Colo.; the Gillette Chamber Singers, Gillette, Wyo., and the Peninsula Chamber Singers in Sequim.

Reid has played a number of roles in musical theater, sung with and led a variety of western bands including his present duo "Water Street Trolley." which performs regularly in Port Townsend.

He also directs the First Presbyterian Church choir in Port Townsend. His wife, Debbie, also is a Peninsula Singer.

The "Passion" includes recitatives, arias, chorales, two choruses and two orchestras, organ and harpsichord, cello and bassoon.

There are no reserved seats. Tickets are $15 adults, $12 seniors and students, children 12 and under are free at The Buzz in Sequim, Itty Bitty Buzz in Port Angeles and at the door.
