Members of the Sequim and Port Angeles High School fastpitch teams joined community members for a “Pink Up” photo Monday evening in Sequim to help promote cancer awareness.
Donning special pink jerseys, the teams honored cancer survivors and collected donations for Operation Uplift before playing varsity and junior varsity games.
Ribbons that players selected representing people they know or have known affected by cancer are tied to the chain link backstop at the Sequim High field.
Shirley Hinojosa got help from Sequim High School coach Mike McFarlen and Jeanne Sparks as she threw out the honorary first pitch before Monday’s Sequim-Port Angeles softball game. Catching was Alexas Besand, Hinojosa’s granddaughter.
After throwing out an honorary first pitch, Nell Clausen gave a high-five to Edwards, a fellow cancer survivor.
T-shirts from Monday’s game are still available for $15 each, with proceeds going to Operation Uplift. Call 808-5448 or 461-6511.
