Pirate women fall in home opener

They got their first official goal, but Peninsula’s women fell short of scoring their first win or draw in a 2-1 loss to Whatcom n Port Angeles Thursday afternoon.

After giving up a penalty kick score just before halftime to Orca Danielle Lange, Peninsula got on the board at the 69-minute mark when Port Angeles native Neeya Hansen took a pass from Michelle Groshong (another P.A. native) and netted the ball for a 1-1 tie.

Whatcom got the game-winner at the 80th minute on an unassisted goal from Tanya Haggen.

“We had two breakdowns in the game,” said Peninsula head coach Kanyon Anderson, “and unfortunately it cost us two goals”

Each team had eight shots on goal.

P.C. keeper Ashley Manker had three saves.

The Pirate women (0-2-0) are at Edmonds on Sept. 4, then host Lane at 11 a.m. on Sept. 12, the first conference contest.
