County Republicans against Juvenile Justice Tax Initiative
At a monthly central committee meeting on Oct. 9, the Clallam County Republican Party adopted a resolution against the Juvenile Justice Tax Initiative, a proposed sales tax increase on the November general election ballot. The proposal would increase funding to support operations of the Clallam County Juvenile and Family Services facility.
“The CCRP believes in the great work being done by the employees at the Juvenile Detention Center and fully supports their tireless efforts to make a difference in the troubled youth in the program,” the party said in a statement, adding, “However, we feel it is incumbent upon the County to not use a tax increase to try to solve budgetary issues. A tax increase should be the last resort, and should not take the place of making hard decisions that would achieve the same results of a tax increase.”
The party also proposed that future levels of county employment be tied to the percentage of population increase in Clallam County.
Clallam Dems endorse candidates
The Clallam County Democratic Party, by unanimous vote of the general membership, endorsed candidates on the November 2017 ballot for state and local elected positions.
Party members endorsed Michael Cobb, candidate for Port of Port Angeles commissioner, and Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin for Port Angeles City Council, Position No. 3.
The members also voted to endorse 24th Legislative District incumbents Steve Tharinger and Mike Chapman for continued service as Washington State Representatives when they come up for re-election in 2018.
