Poulsbo man dies in wreck south of Hood Canal Bridge

A Poulsbo man died in a vehicle collision in Kitsap County just south of the Hood Canal Bridge that did not close the bridge but did force drivers to take one of two detours to get there, according to Washington State Patrol spokeswoman Katherine Weatherwax.

A 2016 Honda Fit hatchback driven by Michael W. Wogoman, 62 of Poulsbo was northbound on Highway 3 about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, while a Ford pickup truck driven by Xisto Ramirez Carillo, 42, hometown unknown, was southbound on Highway 3 at milepost 60, about two-tenths of a mile south of the bridge, according to the State Patrol’s incident memo.

Wogoman tried passing on a blind corner and struck Carillo’s Ford head-on in the southbound lane, troopers said.

Wogoman’s Honda ended came to rest on the northbound shoulder and Carillo’s Ford came to rest on the southbound shoulder.

Wogoman was declared dead at the scene, the memo said.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.

Jose Villanueva, 29, hometown unknown, also was injured and taken to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale, according to the State Patrol, which added that he was wearing a seatbelt.

Mario P. Ramirez, 28, Bremerton, was a passenger in Wogoman’s Honda.

The incident memo listed unsafe passing as the cause of the collision.
