A heavy windstorm knocked power out for more than 11,800 Clallam County Public Utility District customers in the Sequim area Wednesday evening.

A heavy windstorm knocked power out to more than 11,800 Clallam County Public Utility District customers in the Sequim area Wednesday evening.

Just after 8 p.m., PUD users in the Sequim area — including all customers east of the Dungeness River — experienced the power outage after a tree in a PUD line near the Sunland substation caused a transmission line in the Happy Valley area to “trip,” utility district officials said.

PUD crews patrolled the lines and with information from the Bonneville Power Administration were able to isolate the cause. They restored power to some of those affected at 10:22 p.m.

Customers in a section of the Sunland subdivision and North of Sunland remained without power until about 11:10 p.m. About 862 customers in south central and west Sequim had power restored in sections between 2:30-3:30 a.m.

There was a separate high wind weather related outage west of the Blyn area that affected 384 customers from about 1:30-4 a.m. Several other small outages related to high winds were also addressed.

All Clallam PUD customers had power restored by about 5:20 a.m., utility district officials said. To report an outage, call 452-9771 or 800-542-7859.
