Presidential primary ballots mailed this week

Voting for Washington’s 2020 Presidential Primary is nearly underway in Clallam County with almost 54,000 ballots scheduled for mailing this week.

Washington State’s Presidential Primary is Tuesday, March 10. Ballots will be mailed to all registered voters on Feb. 19.

Voters should see the State Voter Pamphlet arriving in their mailbox this week, Clallam County elections officials said.

Currently, only the Democratic and Republican Parties qualify as major political parties. Major Political Parties are defined in RCW 29A.04.086. For this election only, voters who choose to participate are required to declare a party affiliation in order to vote. Each ballot packet includes an instruction sheet to ensure votes cast in the election are counted.

Both party declarations are included on the ballot return envelope, and candidates from both parties appear on the consolidated ballot.

Voters must mark one party declaration box and can only choose one candidate in their declared party for their ballot to count.

Ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday, March 10, or returned to a ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

March 2 is the deadline for Clallam County Elections to receive registrations submitted by mail or online. In-person registrations may be received up to 8 p.m. on Election Day at the Auditor’s Office in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
