Lincoln Logs are sooo over.

Block Fest, a building extravaganza for parents and young children ages 8 months to 8 years, saw dozens of families turning, stacking and toppling blocks of all varieties at the Sequim Community School on June 20.

The event is a regionwide project supporting research that shows playing with blocks supports math and science development in young learners.

The program consists of five units: hard maple, natural colored "unit" blocks; large and small multi-colored foam blocks; large brick cardboard blocks; wooden planks; and small unit cubes with pattern cards.

This was the second such event on the peninsula in as many weekends.
