Renaissance launches a book club series

Renaissance, 401 E. Front St., Port Angeles, begins its new series of book clubs this month called Renaissance Reads. The book clubs feature several popular books and the opportunity to gather with others to discuss them.

The book clubs are free and meet on a one-time basis. Everyone is invited to participate. Each book club discussion has a local facilitator who brings background information on the book and author to the meeting along with several questions to initiate conversion. All book clubs take place at Renaissance, on U.S. Highway 101 overlooking Port Angeles harbor.

Leading the docket of books for discussion this fall are "The Number One Ladies Detective Agency" by Alexander McCall Smith, facilitated by local mystery buff Jill Oakes, and "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortensen, facilitated by local educator Darek Staab.

Finishing up the series in early December is "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Burrows, facilitated by Peninsula College librarian Nina Pitts.
