Reporter Ross Coyle joins the staff at the Sequim Gazette this week.
Coyle comes from a collegiate journalism background, where he worked for several years at the Oregon Commentator magazine. In 2011, he moved to Newport, Ore., and worked for six months with the News-Times.
While there he covered a variety topics including animal trainers, Shakespearean directors, homeless camps and Occupiers. Coyle moved north to the University of Oregon in 2006 to pursue a liberal arts career, but was unsure of what to focus on. When he met photojournalist David Burnett at an art exposition in 2008, he knew that journalism was his calling.
He studied journalism for four years at the school, working with a number of different publications during his time there.
He enjoys writing stories on unique individuals, community issues, the arts and outdoors.
A transplant from the California Bay Area, Coyle has continuously moved north while his high school classmates have moved south. He spends his time away from work hiking, SCUBA diving and rock climbing. If the weather’s not good for any of these, he enjoys movies, video games and tabletop games.
