Republican party caucuses set for Feb. 29

The Clallam County Republican Party hosts caucuses at three locations across the county starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29.

In Sequim, party members are encouraged to participate at Sequim High School cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave.; in Port Angeles, at Stevens Middle School gymnasium, 1139 W. 14th St., and in Forks, the Forks Athletic & Aquatic Club, 91 Maple Ave.

Caucus participants will advocate for their preferred issues and have an opportunity to submit written proposals, amendments and resolutions to the county platform committee.

“This is your opportunity to set the direction of the party for the next several years,” event organizers say.

Caucus participants will also elect delegates and alternate delegates to represent their precinct at the Clallam County Republican Party Convention, an all-day event set for Saturday, March 28, at Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The county convention will vote on the county platform and elect delegates and alternates to the state convention, which is held May 14-16 in Everett.

“Any Clallam County registered voter who is willing to state, by signing a Registration Form and List of Participants at Precinct Caucus, that he or she considers him or herself to be a Republican, has not participated and will not participate in the 2020 caucus or convention system of any other party is be eligible to participate in the Republican caucus,” they said.

Individuals must be registered to vote in the precinct of the caucus in which they participate.

To verify one’s precinct, visit or call the Clallam County elections department at 360-417-2221. Bring a copy of one’s voter registration card and a photo ID to ensure you are participating in the correct precinct caucus.
