Resourceful Biochar is the next topic for Sequim’s Science Café

Francesco Tortorici, engineer and entrepreneur with Jofran Enterprises in Port Townsend, presents “Biochar: Production and Applications” at the Science Café, presented by the Sequim Education Foundation, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Paradise Restaurant, 703 N. Sequim Ave.

Biochar, a black carbon material akin to charcoal, has a variety of uses from components of stoves, kilns and industrial processes to soil filters to other uses for growing organic crops.

Tortorici will talk about biochar’s production and uses. Attendees will be presented with an overview of biochar production and uses, including local examples. Several types of stoves and biochar will be available to view.

The Science Café is a community service of the Sequim Education Foundation. Programs present expert speakers for adult and young adult audiences interested in current developments in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Events are held on the second Tuesday of the month at the Paradise Restaurant. Admission is free and food and beverages are available for purchase.
