Rotary provides relief to Italy quake victims

International disaster relief charity ShelterBox distributed 365 boxes and 500 blankets to victims after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck L'Aquila, Italy, on April 6.

International disaster relief charity ShelterBox distributed 365 boxes and 500 blankets to victims after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck L’Aquila, Italy, on April 6.

The Rotary Club of Sequim Sunrise Foundation sponsored one of the ShelterBoxes, costing $1,000.

The quake took nearly 300 lives and left about 40,000 people without homes. ShelterBox was on the ground in Italy setting up tents by April 7.

Since 2005, the Sunrise Rotary has sponsored nine

ShelterBoxes that have been distributed in Indonesia,

Solomon Islands, Sudan and Somaliland.

ShelterBox, an international disaster relief charity, provides boxes containing essential equipment for survival such as weatherproof tents, blankets, cooking equipment, water purification and mosquito nets.
