SARC to spread out September closures

The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center is getting its annual September makeover as planned — but with a new schedule.

Minus the Labor Day holiday, SARC will have at least one portion of the facility open during maintenance and cleaning times. In past years, the entire center has closed for three weeks or more, but in 2014 officials are closing one section at a time.

From Sept. 8-14, SARC’s main section — pool, cardio and circuit rooms, basketball and racquetball courts, saunas and hot tub, KidZone and lockers — will close, but the 5,100-square-foot weight room will remain open. SARC will charge a discounted price of $5/person and honor all memberships. Patrons will be able to access the facility from the back exit doors.

The next week (Sept. 15-21), SARC reopens the main area of the facility and closes the back extension for deep cleaning and machine maintenance. Patrons who want to lift weights will be allowed to use the circuit room machines.

SARC started its maintenance earlier this year. Projects that have been or are scheduled to be completed include parking lot repairs; pool cover replacement; hallway and circuit room painting; gym floor refinishing; painting non-stick coating in locker rooms; membership database upgrade; and deep cleaning of lockers; pool deck; steam and sauna; and cardio, circuit and weight rooms.
